This bird…
On the way out to the mailbox today, I was carrying this not coo-ite three week old silky rosy.
From the shaft of a normal smooth flight or tail feather are barbs held together by the interlocking mesh of smaller barbs called barbules. These form the flexable membrane that catches air during the downstroke of the wing.
Silky birds like this one express a genetic mutation where in their barbules do not interlock, making the shaft look as if it’s covered in hair. They are thus physically incapable of true flight, but can control a fall or mechanically assist a jump.
On the way to the mail box, this little bird discovered a game.
It would leap from my hand, tumbleflutter to the ground, and then turn  around and run straight for my feet hopping to be picked up so that it could do it again.
We played this game all the way to the mailbox and back. ^v^
